Joan reminds me and everyone else, that we are abundantly lucky to be able to chow for 24 hours straight. I'm not exactly the most spirtitual kinda guy, but I have to admit that at various times during the chowhound I did feel especially thankful and recited hamotzi to myself.
So, here's an idea for another gathering. How about volunteering as a group for either Uptown Cafe or Inspiration Cafe, both are similiar ventures that provide "resturant" style meals to those that normally eat otherwise.
I have done Inspiration Cafe a few times. Ms. VI and the chowhoundita's have also done Uptown Cafe. Volunteers cook the food and serve it to the guests. A lot of fun in many ways.
I'd be more than happy to make the arrangements if others are interested.
