I've been a little worried about our Chowhound Mothership. Server problems. Boards under repair. Missing blocks of data from the Chicago board, which I assume and hope are backed up somewhere in internet-land. Always we are on the edge of new software, but never quite there. I feel sometimes it is being run on fumes
I also appreciate all the benefits I've derived from my association with Chowhounds. All my needle in the haystack friends which I would never have met in a lifetime of searching and networking. All interesting and conversant on food, history and life in general. Sometimes events are like lovefests, other times like a dysfunctional family Thanksgiving: we know each others soft spots, for example one friend's love and devotion of LTH.
Tonight, I met up with some Chowhound friends vowing privately to myself to mail the equivalent cost of my dinner as my contribution to the Chowhound Mothership. Before leaving the restaurant, I wrote a check for $25 and mailed it on the way home.
No other time in my life can I lay claim to having had two entirely different preparations of Ant eggs in just one week. Just unfathomable without my association with Chowhounds and the friends I have made through it.
