Chowhound family needs ideas for food in DC

Carol Brand | Jun 4, 2005 12:25 PM

We are doing a house swap with a family from DC. Their house is approx. 16th and Colorado and we will be doing the typical tourist/family stuff in town.... Mall, Smithsonian, Capital etc.

We need some ideas about where to eat as we truck around town via bus and metro. Places that are near the major tourist spots.

We are a true chowhound family; Mom, Dad and 4 kids ages 9-16 We WON'T eat in chains. We love ethic food especially Dim Sum, Pho, Sushi and Thai (although after reading this board, I think we will avoid Dim Sum in DC) as well as Indian, Nepalese, and Ethiopean. We also like bistro fare. We don't care for Mexican food much.

Also, we are going to treat our kids to one nice meal. I've made reservations at Palena for the back room but I'm wondering if the kids might not enjoy the front room just as much (at way less expense to their cheapo Mom). Opinions?
