Heavenly. Hot damn, but that was some really good food.
None of us are particularly sure of what we were eating, as we just passed plates around the table willy-nilly, but it was allllll good.
the chiles rilleno (thank goodness i preordered them!) were delicious.. completely unlike the ones a friend of mine made for me a few years ago, though. hers were jalapenos stuffed with cheese, and the batter was made out of what was essentially a savoury meringue. i wonder if the differences are regional? the ones at el sol were stuffed with beef and cheese, or mushrooms, and breaded as opposed to battered. still yummy though.
my boyfriend had a fairly run-of-the-mill garden salad, with a dressing that appeared to be pure garlic. delicious.
and the chicken mole... haven't had anything like that in eons, and i could have happily ordered another one and crammed it into my stomach somehow.
the guacamole is sublime. i don't much like avocado (fun fact: 'avocado' comes from an Ayahuatl word for 'testicle), and i tend to think guacamole is vile... the guac at el sol isn't pureed, it's chunky. and so full of flavour! i couldn't stop eating it.
i also heartily recommend the pina coladas.
suggestions for next time include italian, dim sum, and a potluck. i'll be sending out a survey thingy through evite with those options, and a write-in option too.
