Aaron D and I, and more recently RST, have all mentioned the menu of Chilean specialties which are offered on a takeout/catering basis at Latin American Sandwiches near Irving and Elston. Are they great? We don't know, we haven't tried them yet. But the everyday menu is good and the restaurant is very friendly, so that sounds like an excuse for a Chowhound event to us. If nothing else this will give you a chance to try things that are like what you'd have if you were invited for a homecooked meal in Chile-- and which you probably can't have anywhere else in Chicago right now.
Before we finalize the menu, date, pricing, etc., we'd like to get an idea of the number of people interested in attending. Here are the likely parameters:
Date: Saturday June 28 or Sunday June 29th, evening
Cost: Probably $15-20 per person
Maximum Capacity: About 20-25 people
DON'T REPLY ON THE BOARD. Per Chowhound rules, please email your interest to mike-at-michaelgebert.com, with the number of people who would attend, and whether you have a preference for Saturday or Sunday. We'll post updated info when it's nailed down, including cost and menu.
This is a totally open event; we strongly encourage people who've never met fellow Hounds in the real world to come on out. It's fun!
