Chowfind in Aventura: Fratello Ristorante

Dev | Feb 18, 2006 04:30 PM

On Thursday evening we met up with some cousins visiting from SA and staying in Aventura. We'd heard good things about Fratello Ristorante in the Promenade Shops and decided to give it a try. It didn't dissapoint!

We were initially impressed that they were able to make their little space in a strip mall look nice and feel cozy. And the service was attentive without being overbearing. Our waiter knew just when to arrive at the table. And the prices were VERY reasonable.

The food was excellent. Apparently they make all of their pasta in-house, and the pasta dishes were outstanding. The mains included a house salad, and their house dressing was very good. One cousin tried the Insalata di Asparagi and proclaimed it excellent. This was an appetizer of asparagus, tomatoes, portobello mushroom and a poached egg, which she said was an interesting but great combination. My husband, who was recovering from food poisoning and just graduating on from jell-o, had the brodo con straciatella soup which was not on the menu, but recommended by our waiter for his delicate stomach. It was also very good.

As for the pasta, it was fabulous. Several of us chose the Spaghetti Campagnola b/c it sounded so good. We were going to try a few different pastas to sample them all, but we all thought the portobello mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and capers w/ white wine sauce sounded perfect. We were right. The homemade spaghetti was perfectly toothsome and the sauce really fantastic. I'm already craving that pasta again while I type this. And another cousin had a chicken milanese which he enjoyed very much.

Since we had to meet more family members at Cafe Cafe afterwards, we passed on dessert. But we will definitely be going back when in the area again. (Which happens all the time at this time of year with all the visitors.)
