***Chowdown Invite: Spices! II, Monday, 1/5, 7pm***

Melanie Wong | Jan 4, 200409:14 PM

Let’s start the new year of chowhounding with a spicy kick-off!

Former SF chowhound, Limster, is in town and we’re scouting the new location of Spices! The original spot became a contender for the City’s best Sichuan soon after it opened with many positive reports on this board. The new place is larger and reputed to be even better. We’ll find out tomorrow. I’ve reserved a table and hope you’ll join us to give the menu a whirl.

The cooking is described by the owner as “a fusion of various Chinese Szechuan cuisine, including Taiwanese, Chen Du and Chung Ching.” The menu starts off with 27 small plates (“snacks”), priced from $1.95 to $4.95. About 15 to 20 of these sound interesting, and it would be a kick to order them all, if we have a big enough group, plus selections from the many Sichuan standards on the menu.

If you’d like to take part in this fiery repast, please email me at to reserve your slot. This invitation is open to all chowhounds, subject to space limitations.
