Chowathon 2002 - Summer version (not 24 hours!)

Vital Information | Jul 15, 2002 05:50 PM

All ideas stem from missed exits on the expressway, right? Yesterday, we were off to meet a group at the Indiana dunes. We had packed sandwiches, but as I was passing around 43rd on the Dan Ryan, it hit me that maybe we should have stopped for Lem's to bring to the beach.

Well that idea came and went until we missed the skyway exit. I got off soon enough at Stoney Island. Within seconds, we found ourselves temptatingly in front of the awesome looking shack (no joke) that is Calument Fisheries--oh to have been not so late. Then, we passed a jerk chicken place and then, well we were back on the tollway.

So, here's my idea for a late summer fest: We grab a bunch of south side goodies and head, en masse over to the dunes for a grand picnic/hike/dip in the cold waters. On the way back, we stop for lake pearch. Any takers? Of course, knowing how well fried shrimps travel with this crowd, I suggest we meet FIRST for Calumet Fisheries, then head out to the beach.

I'd suggest maybe August 11 or August 18 and I'd like this to be a family friendly event.
