The Non-Chow Pub Crawl - Toronto Taverns

eller | Dec 15, 2009 06:38 PM

This post has nothing to do with good, or even passable food options or microbrews, but instead it's a request for suggestions on old school Toronto taverns and dive bars.

If in case you've been afraid to do so before, it's great fun to drop in and guzzle recklessly at some of Toronto's dive bars. They're never pretentious, featuring cheap and often questionable beer, a warped pool table and possibly a band or some karaoke with the locals. Nobody will ever know your name, nor will they care to. That's the beauty of diving. Yet slowly, the old taverns in Toronto are becoming rare these days.

As part of a springtime pub crawl, a group of friends and I would like to stay in the east-end as much as we can and plan to hit places in and around the Danforth/Beaches area like the Eton House, Noah's Ark, Ulster Arms, Maple Leaf and the Alpine Tavern but I'd like to know if there are any other critical addresses to hit anywhere in the City before they are lost due to closure or gentrification.

Thank you in advance!
