Chow Challenge: Where would you interview someone?

So here's the challenge: I need a place to interview a young person who has never been in the city. She's coming on the train and so midtown would be most convenient, although if we can avoid a place full of suits that would be great (no offense to the suits reading this!).

I'd like someplace where we can talk, but not a mausoleum. I'd like to impress the interviewee but would rather not pay for a very high-end place. Fairly mainstream food would be best - American, French, Italian.

Very importantly, we'll need to linger comfortably. I was thinking Restaurant 8 1/2 because of their lounge but it looks like they charge about $25 for sandwiches. Anything else along those lines? We could also go into the upper east side, maybe Murray Hill or Chelsea.

Thanks so much - this is an important one for me!
