Chow Alert - Fairfax - "Best taco outside of the beltway"

Moe Green | Jun 9, 200312:20 PM     4

Run, don't walk to Hijole in Fairfax. This is a newish taqueria in Fairfax. I've tried about 4 or 5 different things from there and it is the real deal. We are talking authentic shredded beef, stewed chicarron, crunchy-thick corn tortillas, etc. Those of us who live out that way know how oversaturated the area is with mega-chains and lack of chowish dining options.

As a point of reference, I feel the food is superior to Taqueria Poblano's (I have not tried Taqueria el Charrito Caminante yet.) Other nearby area places like Picante, do not hold a candle it. It's the best taco I have had in NoVa. So I will officially deem it the best taco* (*outside of the beltway).

It's in an awkward strip mall in Fairfax, just past the Route 50 & 66 intersection at the cross streets of 50 & Germantown Road. The place has been pretty empty during my visits, I'd chalk that up to the location. If they had opened up in the FFX towncenter, Baja Fresh would be sweating bullets. However, it's nothing like a Baja. This is a small mom and pop's type place with unbelievable food.
