I'm a frequent contributor to the Florida board and try to do my best with suggestions for travelers to our fair state. A business trip will bring me to New Orleans late this week. Have heard and read great things on this board about the generosity of New Orleans Hounds to visitors curious about how best to choose among your many wonderful dining options. Not my first time, by any means, to New Orleans, but it has been a few years. Due to some complicated transportation issues, will not be looking to dine outside the French Quarter on this trip.
I plan to hit Acme Oyster, Cafe du Monde for beignets, at least a couple of times, and the last stop on the way out of town will be for a muffaletta from Central Grocery. Now that is what I call road food!
My issue is where to have a special meal or two, in a moderate price range, that won't involve serious dressing up, and I am considering Olivier's on Decatur, Irene's Cuisine on St. Philip St., Cafe Sbisa on Decatur, and Bayonnna (I loved a meal there a few years ago) but more likely Bayonna for lunch. How to choose?
Also, since a lot of my prospective dining seems to be along Decatur, wondering if you have a moderately priced hotel you'd send friends to convenient to the restaurants on that street.
SO appreciate the help, and I PROMISE to report back.
