Cholados at Pecas Y Mas in Woodside/Sunnyside

Saturday afternoon we stopped off at Pecas Y Mas, on Greenpoint Avenue, between 44th and 45th St.

we'd passed it many times, but never really ventured in.

well, they have Cholados there, and i can honestly say i can't think of a better thing to drink/eat on a warm afternoon.

for those who don't know (and i didn't until saturday), it's basically shaved ice, a few different fruit juices, what i take to be sweetened condensed milk, and a whole mess of fresh fruits. and i mean, a LOT of fruit scattered on the top.

that's pretty much it - it was fantastic.

one caveat - i went tonight, and it wasn't as good as it was saturday afternoon. still delicious, but not as good. i suspect it was because on saturday, they ground up the ice fresh, in front of us. tonight a cup of shaved ice was pulled from the freezer.

they also apparently make lots of different kinds of fruit and vegetable juices, as well as some smoothies, but i never did get past the cholado to find out. :o)
