How Do I Make Chocolate Softer For Coating?

I'm making meringues that will be dipped in chocolate but there's too much difference between the hardness of the chocolate and the tenderness of the meringue. If you bite hard enough to get through the chocolate the meringue shatters and goes everywhere.

So what is the secret to taking some of the snap out of chocolate?
