Chocolate brownie cookie question

Looking to make these much touted cookies today (getting a LATE start on Christmas baking!). Do you think they will work with toffee bits in place of the mini chocolate chips? How about chopped pecans instead? I'm just wondering if either of these will help cut the intense chocolatey-ness. Which, of course, may just be a silly goal.
