last night we had an excellent dinner at CHO DANG GOL on 35th street (bet.5th&6th aves.). we drank OB beers and got a small bottle of a mellow soju rec'd by our great waiter. the panchan was plentiful and excellent. the kimchi style was not very spicy, but another small plate of a crunchy (not sure what it is, onions or cabbage?) had the spice i look for. other items included smoked bbq fish, crunchy lettice and a firm tofu/scallion dish. our mains were bulgogi and a mushroom/vegetable tofu casserole. i hovered over everthing like the hot sun on blacktop.
the restaurant is known for making their own version of a more watery than typical tofu and it is outstanding. also of note was the best side of rice i have ever eaten.
the dinner crowd was a fine mix of young and old and i'd guess was around 75% korean. great service. charming small space. the bill was under $50 for two. this is a fantastic place, try it you will enjoy yourself.
