Chloe at the Navy Yard - Report

Steve | Jul 22, 202001:39 PM     2

My first time to the new development at the Navy Yard. Lots of restaurants to choose from and a nice area to walk around with a boardwalk and some interesting architectural features. Many pretty vistas. Plenty of space on the patio, and good distancing inside as well.

Chloe is shared plates and that's what we did. There is a WOW dish here, and something you should not miss: the caramelized cauliflower has tahini and lemon baked into it, so it is intensely rich and flavorful without having a sauce. I would rank this among the great dishes of the DC area.

Another hit was the chicken liver mousse drizzled with a bacon-shallot jam and vin cotto, hard to resist. We also got the scallions in romesco sauce, but not as good as the romesco at Jaleo or Estadio, the latter established by the same chef. Two specials were good but not so special: heirloom tomato salad had a pungent dressing which was delicious but not sure if this is the way to showcase summer heirlooms and broccolini bagna cauda was nice but not very interesting.

Desserts were successful: a brownie with vanilla ice cream, a lovely light chocolate sauce and best of all candied peanuts that were airy and crunchy.... and a manchego cheesecake which was not as special as the delightfully sour quince lemon sorbet on top. Some dried fruit and crunchy phyllo-like threads were great additions.

I would go out of my way (and knock over a few people) for that cauliflower dish.
