A few weeks ago our table of 4 had a mixed experience at Chloe -- some items very good and others pretty bad (cormeal crusted fish and tiramisu -- both bland and the fish surprisingly greasy). Based on encouragement on Chowhound to give it another try, I took an out-of-town friend this past weekend.
Again, the Chloe salad was good -- you can't go wrong with that goat cheese in panko! Unfortunately the other small plate I had, the carmelized onion tart, was not a winner. It was dried out, mostly crust, and next to no onions. Whatever the point of it was, it was missed on me. I'm a big piecrust lover, usually I'm the one who eats my husband's piecrust leftovers, but this was overwhelming. I left a third of it on the plate and the server didn't even comment.
My friend had the halibut special for the large plate and the small plate smoked trout special. The smoked trout was very good; the halibut was good but the seasoning was mild. Given previous comments on this board, it's interesting to note that the prices of the specials are not offered, even though the specials are printed on the chalkboard. I was paying, and was surprised that the halibut was $23 compared to the other large plate prices.
The hummus saved the day -- it's terrific.
Again, the service was spotty -- for a place so small, why is it so difficult to get water refills?
So, I'll be busy trying all the other great places in the area -- Chloe is so popular that I'm sure no one will miss me!
