Chinese Birthday Dinner

LazySusan | Aug 5, 2004 12:57 PM

I want to host a birthday dinner for my boyfriend who loves Chinese food. In the past, he has enjoyed restaurants in China Town where food is served with no frills, but not run-of-the-mill catering to American taste type food.

His fantasy is to have the kitchen prepare whatever creative or genuine dishes they care to--- and to bring them to the table until we say "no more"! Sort of like a Charrascuria Plataforma kind of thing.

The limitation is money. We really can't afford opulence. So I think if we could find a place that offers genuine and interesting Chinese dishes at a reasonable price, that would be great.

One place I have been to is "Wu Liang Yi" -- the one on west 48th Street -- We went there once along with a Chinese friend of ours, and he ordered for us. We had all sorts of unusual dishes that we never would have had otherwise. I don't remember how expensive it was. But this may be the kind of thing we are looking for, but possibly less expensive, if possible.

Any ideas and/or advice on this would be very welcome!
