Chinatown New Year Banquets - R.I.P.

Steve | Feb 23, 2004 08:17 AM

I was saddened to read in this mornings Inky that the Chinese Cultural Center is being sold and there will be no more New Years Banquets. There haven't been for 2 years and I really miss them. I would gather a group every year and it was fun and affordable.

Every year I ask if there are other banquets in the area. Only two exist - to my knowledge. Joe Poon at about $38.00 and Susannah Foo at about $50.00.

I sure wish that another restaurant in Chinatown would take this task on. It would be good publicity for them and get diners in for rest of year. Then again, China town in Philly has not only shrunked phisically over the years but the number of CHINESE restaurants has become smaller being replaced by Vietnames and Burmese and other Aisian restaurants.

So, I'll just have memories of great banquets at the Chinese Cultural Center.
