chinatown scallion pancakes and peking ravioli

jb | Mar 9, 2006 06:05 PM

I keep reading reviews of the scallion pancakes and peking ravioli at various chinatown establishments. 99% of these place as well as the groceries in chinatown get both of these items at the same place.

I know alot goes into the prep and greasiness and cripness, etc will vary.

The main point of my post is that most people dont know this place and that it will sell to the public!

Forgive me for not recalling the name or street name but I can tell you simply where it is. You are in Chinatown on beach street facing the large gates. It is your last left you can make before you get to Imperial Seafood. I think its Oxford st.

There is a market on this street as well as a barber in the basement, used to be a small icecream place in the basement too, not sure if its still there.

Anyway in the basement on that same side of the road (the other side is residential mostly) there is a noodle factory that makes only scallion pancakes and peking ravioli. You can go down there and be greated by a woman in an apron covered in flour. Nobody speaks much/any english. they will sell you a huge bag of scallion pancake or peking ravioli for dirt cheap to cook at home.

Another great place in the fortune cookie company/noodle factory next to the small 88 in chinatown. Actually this is on the corner of the street Im talking about above. You can go into this place and ask for the reject fortune cookies. You get the biggest bag you can imagine for a couple bucks. they are all deformed many are still flat discs. They are the best and freshest you will ever have!
