It seems Chinatown has a bakery on every corner. Which one is the best, or you go to different bakeries for different things?
I think Fay Da has good roast pork buns.
Tai Pan is decent but not amazing.
Golden Dragon (I think that's the name) has good "bou lou bau," these mini buns with a crumbly milky sugar topping. It's right where Canal and Walker meet.
I went to Fortune Stars today because a lot of Chowhounders recommended their moooncakes. I thought the texture was soft and moist, but the filling tasted more like sugar than red bean paste. It also had a grease slick.
I'm still looking for a to-die-for Chinatown bakery. Any suggestions?
