china village lunch

susabelle | Jun 20, 200304:02 PM

After having two great dinners at China Village, I decided to treat myself to lunch. I ordered off the lunch menu, the spicy eggplant. The whole thing was disappointing--boring egg drop soup, silly salad, ordinary eggroll, and just ok eggplant. I asked the guy who seemed in charge and whom I remembered from my wonderful dinner experiences what was up with this--was it just that one should know not to order a lunch special, which gets reduced to the least common denominator of Chinese cuisine--and order instead from the regular menu? I didn't get a clear response (a combination of maybe I don't like eggplant--I do--and when you order off the main menu, you have more variety--but it was quality, not variety that was the problem). I was so thrilled to have a super Chinese restaurant in Berkeley. Now I'm wary and a little depressed. Advice? Thoughts?
