China Star - Specials Menu? Non-Oily dishes?

Jason B. | Jul 9, 2004 12:14 AM

I finally made it out to China Star tonite. Upon inspecting the menu, I assumed that the specials were the items written in Chinese on the 1st xeroxed page of the menu? Is this the case? I tried to ask 2 different members of the waitstaff if they wouldn't mind translating it for me, and they both claimed that it was the same thing that is written on the following pages (in English). I asked one waitress if there were any specials & she said "No". I was hoping to order a special, since based on my readings here it seems that those dishes are among their best. Does anyone know if they are still offering weekly specials?

The items that we did order were based upon others recommendations on here (scallion pancakes, capsicum chicken, dry shredded beef, spicy/sour wontons, 5 spice tofu)...I liked everything, except, as others have noted, everything was a bit oily. Does anyone have any suggestions for dishes that aren't oily? The waitstaff didn't seem to want to assist us too much with our ordering. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Thursday night, and it was often hard to flag someone down.
