We tried China Little House tonight, mainly because we live in Capitola and didn't feel like driving all the way over to the west side to O'Mei. The place is located on Portola near 30th. It's pretty small, and I believe it is fairly new. I think it used to be a Mexican restaurant. Anyway, service was a bit slow. This was due to the fact that the poor guy behind the counter who was dealing with all of the "to-go" orders was also doing double duty as our waiter. We ordered hot and sour soup, potstickers, and kung pao prawns. The soup was very good. Full of tofu and very tasty. I would definitely order it again. The potstickers were a disappointment. Way too doughy. I have never had such a thick potsticker. I didn't care much for the pork filling. My partner ordered the veggie potstickers and like the filling but agreed that the potsticker "skin" was too thick. The kung pao was not bad, but not spicy enough for my liking. And way too many pieces of zucchini. It did have a nice "clean" flavor though, not the overly greasy flavor that you get with bad Chinese food. The prices are inexpensive. The place was pretty crowded with locals by the time we left. We tried to get a carry out menu but they had run out of them. I get the impression that they do a brisk carry out business. I would say, if you want "cheap" Chinese, China Little House is a step up from most of the places I have tried in Santa Cruz county. I am looking forward to trying some other dishes on the menu. Now that I have tried the kung pao, I can order it a bit spicier next time.
