China Crown gone; dumpling recs?

kcmarshall | Aug 7, 200302:43 PM

We thought we'd drive up to China Crown (New Brighton? St. Anthony? N Mpls?) for dumplings this past weekend. When we arrived, we discovered a new restaurant had opened in that space after 'remodeling'.

Decided to check the menu in a desparate hope that it was only a 're-branding' and got suckered into staying because there were dumplings (pot stickers really) on the appetizer menu. Darn that MN nice! It was the first day the new place was open - for all we know we were the first customers.

Long story short: really, really bad food! Only because my wife is saintly did she not throw a major hissy about the _dreadful_ chicken almond ding she was served. No she's not adventurous but still c.a.d. is a dish you'd expect suburban gringos to want to order. Couldn't have fled to our car more quickly if the chef had been on our heels with a wok full of more blech!

So, no more northern Chinese dumplings for us. Anybody have something good to say about the dumplings elsewhere?
