I was turned on to the fact that China Canteen in Rockville was now serving Sichuan dishes and decided to check it out on behalf of the Chowhound community. Located in a small strip mall at 808 Hungerford Drive, with a very small parking lot, the restaurant was hopping at lunch time with a mostly Chinese clientele.
Since it was just me, I only ordered a few small dishes: an order of hong you chao shou--红油炒手(red oil wontons), dan dan mian--担担面(noodles with hot and numbing sauce) and kou shui ji--口水鸡(cold chicken in peanuty hot and numbing sauce). Each was very authentic, just like they serve it in China (where I just was last week, so my taste memories are fresh) and the service was adequate (though the one waitress who would approach all the non-Chinese patrons offering more rice constantly was a bit annoying, especially since my dishes did not go with rice). Prices are fair, too, so if you're looking for a wide range of Sichuan small dishes, it's worth a try.
