Chili John's in Burbank: a review

What a letdown!

Nice atmosphere, neat-o horseshoe-shaped counter (and no tables), very nice people, blah blah...

But the chili was okay, not great. I, and half the readers here, have done better many times. Shredded beef, yes, but hardly inspiring spicing. But even that would be okay, if not for the fact that it's a) overpriced for b) a too-small portion.

It's something like $6.50 for a "Regular" bowl the size of a smallish soup bowl, half-filled (half of which is either beans or rice or pasta). Plus all the tiny oyster crackers you can desperately eat.

Add 60 cents per tiny cup of (okay) sour cream and (dry, commercially shredded) cheddar cheese more suitable for packing delicate antiques, and another buck-fifty for (good) iced tea...With tax, tip, and dealer prep, you're out eleven-twelve bucks and still hungry.

For shame!
