I wandered into the Fort Charles Pub last week to catch the O's game and share a couple of cold ones with a friend and ordered up a chili cheese dog to pass the time. I was shocked at what returned. All beef Nathan's hotdog, home made chili, melted cheese on a nice toasted bun. Beeutiful. Not a hot dog bun or the H&S roll you get everywhere else. Decent onion rings as well. It was fantastic, a rare chowhound find. The "chef" came out to check on our meal (we were sitting at the bar, and I suspect he was actually just going back there to get himself a beer). We told him how pleased we were with the kitchen's work and he claimed to have a world class crab cake as well. I made a mental note to comeback and try it. Has anyone else here sampled their culinary delights? Could we have a battle of Fort Ave crab cakes between here and Capt Larry's on our hands?
Notes: The Fort Charles Pub is located, not so surprisingly, on the corner of Fort Ave and Charles Street. Though physically on what some deem the borderline, it is certainly in South Baltimore and not in Federal Hill. Only the culinary curious and those who don't mind the more than occasional four letter word from the staff need to check it out.
