Chilean Chowdown

Amscrap | Jun 28, 2003 11:40 PM

Tonight saw the much anticipated Chowhound get together at Latin Sandwich Cafe (4009 N. Elston Ave.). Probably more anticipated by Alice and I since it was to be the first time we were going to break bread with our fellow chowhounds.

The selections were from the Chilean side of the menu and consisted both of items that can be ordered for immediate eating and also some of the special items that need to be ordered 24 hours in advance.

The food, and especially the company, lived up to our high expectations.

I won't say much about the food because, judging from the people at the Cafe, I anticipate seeing some reviews that will be better than what I could produce. And I feel sure that there will also be a link to some of the pictures of the servings.

However, I can't help but mention that one of the high points was the Pastel de Choclo, described as a sweet baked corn pie with a filling of ground beef and chicken (which was present in the form of a whole chicken leg). This is but one of the items I would certainly be happy to eat again (as I will be doing tomorrow since this is one of the leftovers we took home with us).

Thanks are due to Mike G and Aaron D for making the initial reviews of this place back in April and for suggesting the group grub fest. Also, thanks Mike for the coordination and legwork.

Ken (and Alice)
