Chile/cucumber/Melon paletas

zim | Jul 1, 200309:43 AM

The other night I happened to get a "chile" paleta from one of the paleteria ayutla carts(home base, back of the yards). It was a pretty interesting flavor combination melony/limey/salty with chile bits and little chunks/slivers of fruit in the icy 'sicle of fun.

While waiting for my popsicle, the vendor described it to a spanish speaking popsicle eater as "pepino", though the ingredient list in english noted it as cucumber. The taste was definitely more akin to canteloupe as was the color - does anyone know which is normally used?

As I said, I enjoyed the popsicle, but can envision a much better one, maybe a fresher made version (after all i've found a lot of variability in paleta company quality - with my favorite so far being monarca) - does any one know of good versions of this paleta around?
