Help with "Childhood Favorites" theme party menu

bitsypieces | Jun 5, 2009 08:49 AM

I could use help planning the birthday party menu for my baby's first birthday. The theme is "Childhood Favorites." I'd like the foods to be standard childhood favorites (not the weird stuff we may have personally liked, but no other kid would eat... like my personal fave, beef gravy poured over white bread). I am hoping for as many dishes I can make ahead of time and/or require no oven space.

So far my menu is:

Mac & Cheese
Jello Jigglers

I was thinking about fried chicken because it's easy (just order it from local supermarket), but is that really a childhood fave? Hubby says to do burgers and dogs, but I don't want him working at the grill... I'd rather the food be ready ahead of time. I am also running into the problem that seems like most childhood faves--chicken nuggets, French fries, etc.--are beige. This party will be mostly adults with only some kids.

Any ideas?
