Best Chicken for soup?

I've never made chicken soup from scratch and I'm aiming to do so this weekend. My question is, what type of chicken should I use for the most flavorful stock - broiler, fryer, etc? Is free range better?

The recipe only calls for 3 lbs, so that might make my decision for me...but any insight would be much appreciated!
