Chicken Savoy ala Belmont Tavern (original in Newark)

dosielee | Apr 22, 200801:47 PM     2

hi all. being from north jersey, we often went to Stretch's -- Belmont Tavern on newark, bloomfield border for chicken savoy , chicken murphy, cavatelli and pot cheese. the savoy always made with red wine vinegar--not basalmic as many others.if you liked the b.t. in newark, check out Nico's on Washington Rd. in Sayreville.the chef worked in the Belmont for 18 yrs. (we were told) the 2 chicken dishes were as remembered. huge portions. other patrons were raving about their dishes-- one eggplant parm. a waitress named Sarah made the long, new restaurant wait for food quite painless. nice people. food extremely reasonable. savoy--10.95! only small glitch-- cavatelli and ricotta seemed to have been sprinkled with fresh cilantro, not parsley. new rest. and will all work out. food well worth a visit. liquor license. we loved it. it's just off exit 124 so. on pkwy. open at 4:00
