Chicago Tribune reduces Arun's from 4 star to 3 star

In a lengthy review of Arun's that runs in today's Chicago Tribune (6/16/05), newspaper restaurant critic Phil Vettel has reclassified Arun's a three star experience - a reduction of a full star. Vittel's reviews are widely read and, rightly or wrongly, many people decide where they're going to eat based on a well-regarded critic's reviews.

Here's two short quotes from the new review of Arun's:

"For most of its 20-year history, Arun's has been the consensus, no-doubt-about-it, No. 1 Thai restaurant in the city, the region and arguably the country. The last time I reviewed Arun's (May 1996), I rated it four stars. Today, I'm reducing that rating to three stars."

"Unquestionably, the restaurant continues to provide an excellent dining experience. But based on recent visits, service has slipped, and the kitchen's "wow" factor--that I-can't-believe-what-I'm-eating rush of excitement--has waned."
