Chicago Ribs - by Hungry Hound

c8w | May 28, 200405:16 PM

The "Hungry Hound" from local ABC TV has been
mentioned on this board before - usually does
a pretty good job with restaurant reviews etc.
Well, today he did Chicago 'cue - caught most
of it on TV this morning.

Said it was an extensive 3 week research. And,
"with apologies to Lem's, Leon's, Twin Anchors
and the other favourites", he had slightly
different rankings.

His Top Two were... Honey One on the West Side,
and The Rib Joint on the South Side (Honey One
being the very young one - they talked to
Robert Adams, showed his style of cooking,
talked about the "smoke ring" etc).

For the North Side, he mentioned Smoke Daddy
and Fat Willy as reasonable places. And for
West Town, he mentioned LT's Grill (which,
he said, was owned by the same guy who used
to own the now departed NN Smokehouse).

Must say, seems a pretty reasonable job, as he
usually seems to do. I'd put Barbara Ann's up
there as well, but maybe theyre slipping -
the last time I was there (couple weeks ago),
IMHO the tips were much worse than Iam used
to with BA's, though the Hot Links were, as
per usual, IMHO the best in the city.

Honey One, of course, is well known and well
regarded on this board. Rib Joint IIRC has
been praised in other quarters as well. Never
been there, must try it sometime - every time
Ive been down in the area the easy choices have
been Barbara Ann's and Lem's, maybe this needs
to be the added to the short list.

Honey 1 BBQ

The Rib Joint

P.S. There is a link on their website too,
just found it. In "other notables" they have
"87th Street BBQ" and "Ribs n Bibs" on Dorchester.
Do people on the board have much of an opinion
on Ribs-n-Bibs? It would be very convenient
on any trip down to Hyde Park - is it worth
going to, instead of making the further trek
down to BA's, Lem's and The Rib Joint?
