Restaurants & Bars 5

So, last night my girlfriend and I are walking along Roosevelt Ave. in Jackson Heights, attempting to digest a wonderful La Portena dinner (skirt steak and sweetbreads and gnoquis, oh my), and we stop to take a look at Chibcha, the monstrously huge Columbian restaurant/sports bar/night club/disco/travel agency (!) at 79th. The manager at the door beckons and gives us a tour. He shows us the dance floor, the private party rooms, and is especially proud of all the giant-screen TVs. It's cavernous, empty, and quite beautiful. We stayed for a drink at the really lovely bar--they had my absolute favorite Spanish brandy, Gran Duque D'Alba ($7 for a healthy-sized snifter). The whole place had a really good feel about it.

Anyway, I have a birthday coming up, and I'm thinking about some sort of loud, liquor-besotted, chowcentric group event. This place seemed like it might be a possibility. But has anyone ever -eaten- here? The "comida continental creativa" menu wasn't too encouraging--I get the feeling food isn't a primary concern here. But I could be wrong.

Any other suggestions for a fun food-and-drink-and-maybe-music place for about a dozen (mostly gringo) revellers? Any ethnicity, any (subway-accessible) neighborhood.
