I used to love this place. But the last couple of times I was there, things were really weird. The first time, in April or May...they had run out of 3/5 of the dishes on their set menu - unprecedented.
Then it closed for "renovation" over the summer. All summer, I called when I thought of it, or walked by when I was in the 'hood...and it was always closed.
Then finally in, I want to say Sept or Oct, I was going to the Ifield for lunch, and Chezmax was open so I walked in to find out the scoop. There was an employee row going on upstairs, and I was ignored for five minutes, so I left.
So...what gives? I know about their history...VAT problems...openings/closings...blah blah blah...
What I want to know is, has anyone been there *recently* and is it the same or has it been taken over by new managers or what?
The one constant that I always looked forward to (aside from good food & gentle prices) was the guy (one of the owners, perhaps) who really relished describing each dish down to the last detail. Could have competed with Keith K for the title of Food Porn King.
