Celebrity chef Laurent kategly launched his "desti-
nation restaurant" last nite at an extravagant food
free-for-all. On hand were his signature dishes from
Foreign Cinema. Squab w/ trumpet mushrooms, lamb
fillet w/ grilled eggplant on brioche and blue fin
tuna tartare on escarole. Dessert was a chilled
minced cranberry, cherry, apple and strawberry soup
w/ champagne granita.
Laurents' menu at Foreign Cinema focused national
media attention on Mission District restaurants.
Can this very fringe location next to a grocery store
parking lot also win over the guys from Gourmet and
the LA Times?
His prices are very 1999- $25 for Petrale Sole. His
core fans are 20 somethings and dot com survivors.
A fickle crowd. what follows? buzz or bomb?
