chez panisse restaurant report - black truffle week

i had an excellent meal at chez panisse restaurant, unbeknownst to us, last night's dinner was during CP's black truffle week

everything was fresh and wonderfully prepared, here's what we had:

plate of roasted almonds and bread and butter

dungeness crab salad with winter chicories, lime, and coriander vinaigrette -- excellent, you could taste all the individual flavors

Celery root velouté with fried Jerusalem artichokes and black truffles -- very simple and very good

Grilled Sonoma County Liberty duck breast with kumquats and bitter orange sauce, turnip and potato gratin, and braised endive and greens -- the vegetables were excellently prepared and i really think that chez panisse does the best duck i've ever had anywhere

Caramel soufflé - great desert, light and fluffy

a couple chocolate truffles and candided grapefruit peels to finish it off

my only issue is the black truffles, what are they supposed to taste like? it didn't seem like they added anything to the celery root soup...but it was still excellent nonetheless

chez panisse is just the best, often imitated around the bay area, but nothing is like the original
