Last night I had dinner with a friend at Chez Melange. I know it gets reasonable reviews on this board and elsewhere (Zagat has it at a 25!, said it was one of the best restaurants in the South Bay--where I had to be last evening). To me it was a throwback to the 1960s in every respect (actually that was the best thing about it), though not a distinguished example of that decade. I ordered the New York Steak, on the bone, highly recommended by the waitress, which was alright, nothing great; it came with limp shoe-stringish potatoes and green beans coated in some kind of horseradishy sauce. The "lobster corn dogs" app. was alright, considering it was what it was--decently thin batter, sort of two small lobster croquettes on a stick. Dessert was a tasty but hum-drum chocolate souffle. For the bill, we could have eaten well enough at Angelini. I am curious: what should be ordered at this place??
