Chez Isabelle (bistro)- South Slope

For several years Chez Isabelle has operated a slightly rough at the edges patisserie in the South Slope--7th Avenue between 13th and 14th, I think (or maybe a block further south).

Afew months ago they opened a bistro serving brunch, lunch and dinner. Early on they happened to offer cassoulet as a special for $10 or $11. It was quite good, if a little rough at the edges. Being affiliated with a patisserie, dessert was good too. The room was small but pleasant, the service was friendly, and you could byob. I was negligent in not posting.

Saturday night we went back. Veal in champagne cream sauce and rabbit in tomato and herbs were both good, esp the rabbit. Both $10 or $11. The room is still pleasant, the staff still friendly, and you can still byob. What more can you ask?
