So, after all that, we ended up going to Chestnut anyway, and I am glad I did. The space is charming - we ate inside, which is white and restful. The service was terrific, very attentive. My salad was a "BLT" - heirloom tomatoes with chewy, delicious cubes of pancetta and some greens. My dad was not hungry but had the appetizer of the softshell crab, which was generous enough to be a small entree. Had a tiny bit, it was great. Served with a romesco sauce, whatever that is. My hanger steak was nicely beefy and chewy and came with outstanding fingerling potatoes that had some kind of blue cheese on them, YUM! Oh, and wine sauce. Wines by the glass are well-priced and generously poured - I enjoyed the Gruner Vetlinger. Didn't have a chance to try dessert. All things considered I am happy to recommend this place, especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when they have their prix fixe special, which is an absolute steal. The only thing I didn't like is the bread, some kind of focaccia and a raisin bread - this place just needs good solid crusty white bread to mop up tasty sauces!
