Cherry sighting at Monterey Market and strawberry sadness

Alexandra Eisler | May 11, 2006 12:49 PM

Monterey Market was selling local cherries yesterday for $3.59 a pound (for the life of me I can't remember where they are from).

They are small, light red, and not yet very flavorful, with lots of unripened "spurs" attached. But I couldn't resist buying a few, and my chowpup expressed delight that it starting to be "chaywee" time again.

Organic strawberries are $1.99 a basket and still not quite where they should be: white shoulders, lots, LOTS, of mold spots, and just not very flavorful yet. I'm hoping the hot weather will improve things soon...
