Story: A veteran chef speaks out against 16 year old's $160 popup tasting menu http://ny.eater.com/2015/9/1/9241673/...

I'm curious how people feel, but I refuse to register for the media hype machine posing as food journalism that is Eater to comment there, so I started this thread.
So what are people's thoughts? Is Santos' view of a "chef" antiquated? Or is he right that the kid has yet to earn the moniker of "chef"? Is this a more general older generation vs millenials issue?
Note to mods: I x-posted a discussion to the Food Media board, but I feel there should be a separate NYC thread because many of us know Santos well (as well as EMP where McGarry did probably his most well-known trail)
