Saw the chef from Bastide

on Recipe TV a couple of times this week. It made me very curious about the restaurant! Each dish he prepared, with each element he added, I thought "Ewww, YUCK!" He prepared quite a few dishes, all looked awful, but the one I really remember as looking quite repulsive was a Pepsi Cola chicken with a side of corn and popped popcorn drizzled with caramel. I could only wonder who would order such a horrible sounding combination. Plus, he introduced it by explaining that he created the dish because "Americans love Pepsi Cola and corn". Huh? I lived in France many years ago, and I remember a very ignorant, suburban guy who told me that he understood that Americans only like Pepsi and corn, but I thought that was what ignorant rubes believed. I didn't believe that I was hearing it from a multi-lingual chef on TV! And, just to make matters worse, he appeared to have some sort of pomade on his rather long hair, and he was constantly shoving his hair behind his ears with his bare hands and then plating food with those same hands. I say it again, yuck! So, I'm from the Bay Area - am I completely out of touch, is the food just much better than it looks or sounds, or what??? I would love to hear what you think!
