Chef Anu Mapchan's Bhutanese Tasting Menu | Dosa - Refugee Food Festival, San Francisco

Last night Dosa on Fillmore hosted a special guest, Chef Anu Mapchan, to showcase her Bhutanese Tasting Menu as part of the Refugee Food Festival. A portion of the night's proceeds will go to La Cocina, a bilingual culinary training program for marginalized peoples.

Served family style, each of the 11 courses was a delight for the eye and palate. Not a clunker among them. As I partake of more guest chef events, I've learned that its unusual for a dinner to be executed by the guest chef and served by the host venue as seamlessly as this one was. Chef Anu's cuisine was uniquely complex, beautifully balanced with zippy acidity and full-blown spicy heat, and delicious through and through.

Chef Anu came to this country ten years ago and currently lives in the East Bay. She is not cooking professionally currently. It is her dream to make her living as a chef. This event showcased her prodigious talent and I hope that opportunity knocks on her door soon.

Day of the Dad: Michter's Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, housemate orange/cherry nectar, Colonial bitters

Vegetable Momos with sesame and tomato chutney and Goen Hogay fresh paneer and cilantro

Khur Le buckwheat pancake, shishito peppers and chili chutney

Bhutanese Roti with cardamon and cinnamon and Aloo Matar English peas, ginger and garlic

Cucumber Aloo carrot pickle and green chiles

Spicy Chicken Datshi daikon radish, farmer's cheese and bell peppers and Saag Ko Sabji mustard greens, ginger and Thai chiles

Bhutanese Goat Curry with cumin, chiles and turmeric and Basmati Rice

Bhutanese Kheer with sweet milk, almonds and raisins
