"Chef 88," Scarborough - A worthy 'wok-hay' stirred fry specialist to replace current and impending closing of similar establishments

Charles Yu | Jun 7, 201907:35 PM

Extremely busy, relatively new establishment with crowded and stuffy main dining room but a secluded, hidden, cozy and cool 'side' wing.

Overall, dishes we ordered were tasty and commendable with stirred fry ones exhibiting high degree of wok-hay aroma and essence. Stand out was the ' Stirred fry pork neck meat with bitter melon and Chinese preserved mustard green '. Lovely taste profile with fine interaction between the slightly bitter tannic taste of the melon and the sweet and tangy component of the preserved green. The addition of a small amount of celery provided a nice fragrant component to the tender sauteed beef in my 'reference yard stick' dish - ' Stirred fry beef with Chinese Kale ( Gai-Lan ). Their rendition of Sweet and Sour pork ribs using Chinese preserved plums and Balsamic vinegar was an interesting and tasty touch!

A worthy replacement for some recently closed or impending closing wok-hay stirred fry establishments such as Judy's Cuisine or Maple Yip.

Only downside to our meal was a super noisy and rowdy table that shared our room. Totally disregarding the presence of other patrons! What a group of selfish.....!!
