Cheese curds (for poutine)

Lambretta76 | Dec 13, 2002 01:04 PM

I just returned from another pleasurable trip to Quebec and was wondering if any fromgerie in the city (or fancy-shmancy gourmet shop) carried the cheese curds one finds on Quebec's ubiquitous poutine.

(For those who have no idea what poutine is - it's french fries covered with cheese curds and a thick, brown gravy.)

I realized how much I love this dish, and I did bring back a pound or so of the curds, but I was hoping to find a decent local source.

Oh, and while on the subject, does anyone know of any restuarants in the city that serve poutine. Or does anyone have a recipe for poutine gravy mix? (I can't quite put my finger on what exactly it is, and I only have a couple of cans of the gravy left as well.)

Cheers!

Oh, and if any of you happen to find yourself in montreal, stop by Au Pied du Cochon for the best poutine in the world - with a huge slab of wood-fired fois gras on top.
