Any cheap ideas for knife storage with little to no counter space & no wall space?

comfortablynumb | Sep 3, 201410:11 AM     19

I don't have a big budget as my knife collection shows, but I'm growing tired of them getting tossed around in the draw getting banged up, dulled and majorly inconvenient in cooking. Magnet strip is out of the question with the under cabinet fluro lights (that I intend to rip out one day) and counter space is at a premium.

Budget Free - $20? I'm open to non conventional & re-purposing things it doesn't have to be a knife block or anything too fancy. The simplest thing I'm sure would just be a plastic container (preferably something with a lid) but figured I'd ask around here for a few ideas. No cleavers or anything huge in my rotation, some Wusthof take apart shears probably the biggest thing to store.

Thanks
